Argyle sailed yesterday evening for Whangarei and Mangapai, with passengers and cargo. Tho barquentine Falcon, from this port to Newcastle, arrived there on Saturday last, after a long and tempestuous passage of 28 days. She will load back with coal for this port. The barque Stag may be expected in harbour in the course of a day or two from an Australian port. The steamer Rotomahana was taken on the hard lait night, in order to be fitted with one of Barber's patent propellers. H.I.G.M. gunboat Albatross will probably come out of the graving dock botween 10 and 11 o'clock this morning. The Union Co.'s s.s. Tararua arrived in harbour at an early hour ye3terday morning from Melbourne, Hobart Town, and Southern ports, bringing a number of passengers and a cargo for this port. The etoamer left Port Chalmers on the 13th instant, at 6 p.m., calling at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Tauranga, arriving in this harbour at 550 a.m., yesterday. Experienced strong gales, with very heavy sea. The steamer is anuounced to sail for the South at half-past 10 to-day, and intending passengers will have to leave Auckland by the 9 a.m. train. The brigantine Lookout is on the berth at Sydney for this port. Messrs. Brown, Campbell and Co., tho agents of the Orient Line of Steamships, have received a telegram, stating that the Company's powerful steamer Garonne, left Plymouth on the 19th instant, with 400 passengers, and a full cr»rgo for Australia and New Zealand ports. The Company's s.s. Aconcigua is advertised to leave Sydney on July 5, and Melbourne 12th, for Plymouth and London, via the Suez Canal. The A.S.S. Co.'s s.s. Pretty Jane should arrive in harbour, from Gisborne, at an early hour today. She is advertised to sail for the same port at 5 p.m. to-day. The N.Z.5. Co.'s s.s. RangUira may be expected in the Manukau to-day. She is announced to leave Onchunga at 1 p.m. to-mor-The schooner Albatro»s, from Oamaru. with breadstuffs, arrived at Tanranga on Monday last. On tbo discharge of a portion of her cargo, she will couio on to Auckland with the remainder. The schooner Borough Belle sailed from Sydney on the ISth inst. for this port, with the following cargo : —100 bundles brooms, G drays. 1 cart, 746 bags maize, 2 kegs butter, 2 bales, 1740 bags bouedust, and 104 pieces cedar. The schooner Torea, from Kaipirn to Oamaru, ran into Lyttelton on tho ISth inat. for shelter. The barquentine, Swallow, is on the berth at Lyttelton for this port. The new barque Loingana arrived in harbour last night, making the anchorage at 7 p.m., after one of the smartest passages on record—S days. The all-round trip has heon accomplished in one month exactly, including nine days detention at Hobart Town. Tho vessel, as predicted, has proved a, fast sailer, averaging from 9i to 10 knots from wharf to wharf, while along the coast the P.M. s.s. City of Sydney reported that she hung to tho big steamer amazingly, and was only lost sight of in a. heavy squall off the North Cape, although the two vessels sighted each other about 20 miles west of the Three Kings. Tho Loongana has brought a large cargo of jams, green fruit, bark, timber, kc, and discharging will bo commenced forthwith. Captain Fisher reports having left Auckland on the 24th May, having made the run in 14 days. Sailed for Auckland on the afternoon of Monday, the 16th. Cleared the land at dusk on the 17th, when fresh W. and S. W. winds and dirty weather set in, and continued until making the Three Kings at 5.30 a.m. on Monday. The mail steamer was sighted a short time previously, and when day dawned exchanged signals. The Loongana being a new vessel, her name could not be made out by tho steamer, and CapUiu Fisher was requested to spell it. The steamer reported her early yesterday. The schooner Funny, from Whangaroa, with timber, arrived at Melbourne on the 9th instant, after a passage of IS days. u?he B.s. Hero, on her last trip from here to Melbourne, met with a slight accident, which the Anjiis of the 10th reports as follows :—The steamer Hero, from Auckland, viu Newcastle, which latter port she left on the 11th instant, arrived at the Heads at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, and it was intimated by telegram from Queenscliff that she had apparently got her steering gear injured. Messrs. J. Deane and the Hero in case of assistance being required, and in the course of the forenoon it was learned that the Resolute had got the Hero through tho West Channel, but not withont some dilHculty, as the weather wag violent, and the Hero was steering very badly, occasionally coming right round to the wind. In making for the bay, Captain Logan, after getting up well from the lightship, deemed it prudent to anchor, in consequence of the strong gale blowing and the vary heavy sea running, and also in view of the disabled condition of his vessel. Tho mishap to the rudder rendered it impossible in any way to control the course of the Hero, hence the i necessity for anchoring was almost unavoidable, rim steamers—the Williams and Resolute— \ were to bo sent down early this morning to , bring the Hero up to Sandridge.
