TRIAL TRIP OF THE S.S. COROMANDEL
[FKCM.UUR OWN CORRKSFONDKNT.] THA.ME3, Tuesday. The trial trip of the e.s. Coromandel took place this morning. The engines, which have been manufactured by Messrs. A. and G. Price, of Grahamstown, worked splendidly. The boiler, also made by the same firm, is pronounced by Mr. Jobson, Government Inspector, to be one of the best he has seen. During the trip a speed of about nine knots an hour was attained, with a pressure of sOlbs. of steam, and 125 revolutions to the minute. At the invitation of Messrs. Price, a large number of our leading citizens assembled on hoard, and, after about an hour's spin, the vessel came alongside tho wharf, and all were invited below to partake of a substantial luncheon, provided in hosts Symington's usual liberal style. After the lunch a number of toasts were drunk, the principal ones being "The Shareholders of the Coromandel Steam Shipping Company," " The Builders," and " The Engineers." Everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves, nnd many spoke in high, praise of the vessel and her machinery.
