A WISE SUGGESTION.

TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —Since the permanent level of Hopetoun street is to be fixed, and as the City Council is monarch of the broad acres on either side of the street, and since our present Mayor has eyes in his head, and ideas of hia own, ho should see for himself, viewing tho street fiom aristocratic Ponsouby, how much its property, the leases of which shortly fall in, would bo increased by carrying Hopetoun-Btreet through Day-street into Beresford-street. It will have to done some day, aud the cont of doing it will never probably be less than at the present time. In reference to private property in Daystreet, there is but one obstructionist to deal with, and it is to be hopod that ho will prove leas churlish than are our Maori brothers, whose short-sighted, lop-sided, dog-in-the-manper attitude just now, is unworthy of them, and of their responsible advisers, if they have any, which is doubtful. Let the obstructionist throw his land open like a mau, its value will be increased fiftyfold, and let other owners of property in Day-street cheerfully coutributo half the cost—there is rather an extensive gully to fill-in,—of forming a good, wide street in character with the locality.—l am, &c, June 23, 1579. Strike.
