THE GRAVING DOCK.
It will be recollected that recently the Harbour Board Engineer reported that the masonry of the graving dock was giving way, but after careful examination by the Worke Committee of the Board, it was found that such was not the case, and subsequently the Board, by resolution, expressed satisfaction with the manner in which the contract hsd been carried out. Mr. Ware, of the firm of Jones and Ware, the contractors for the construction of the dock, ascertained that the substance of Mr. McDonald's report was to the effect that the masonry of. the dock was falling to pieces had been transmitted to the South by the telegraph agencies, wrote to the Harbour Board, asking them to contradict the statement. He received the following reply: — "Harbour Board Office. I Sir, —I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of yonr letter of the 26th ult., forwarding copy of the Engineer's report from the newspapers of the 21st ulfc., in reference to the graving dook, and in reply bag to inform you that your letter was submitted to the Board at a meeting held yesterday, when it was resolved, ' that the Board is perfectly satisfied with the workmanship and material of the graving dock.'—James M. Brigham, Secretary. To Messrs. Jones and Ware." ,
