New Zsaland Hbrald Office, Tuesday evening. The Customs duties collected to-day amounted to JTOiO 13s Bd. ENGLISH. LONDON, June 21.—The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co'a. Wool Market report of the above date, reports :—Wool: The sales closed at an average improvement of Jd to Id per lb. Scoured and superior greasy have both advanced Id per lb. since the close of last sales. The market for lambs' wool and superior greasy crossbred is firmer. The sales comprised about 200,000 bales. 90,000 bales have been held over for future disposal, and 30,000 bales have b.en taken for export. MELBOURNE. The Argus of the 17th instant reports :— Broadstuffs are going off quietly, though to effect large sales of flour easier rates have to be taken. Quotations, according to brands, still rule at from £11 153 to £12. For choice brauds the latter price is steadily required by holders. At the former a line of 25 tons of a brand in less favour was placed, aud ono of 70 tons changed hands on private terms. Primo wheat is quoted at 5a 9d, and medium continues to be offered at 5s Cd to us 7d, but we are without any special sales to refer to. irnvals of wheat and Hour from tho country districts have been considerable for last week. Advices from Adelaide have reached us by circular to 14th inst. Wheat was quoted at 4s 10J at Port Pirin. and Ha ot Port. A.iaiaM*. Shipments to date amount to 2,003,033 bushels wheat, and 37.851 tons of flour. O.its are moving at fair rates. GQO bags have been quitted, in one instance at 3s 5,1 for fine New Zealand feeding, and 33 Gd to Zi 7d for milling. Maize is going off for trade purposes at 3s sd. In sugars wo report a decidedly improved demand for Company's refined sugars, and a good business has been reported at full rates. Inquiries for Mauritius sorts have also been brisker, and, in addition to what has already been done, a larger business still is expected to be carried through. A line of 400 ba S n grainy greys has been placed at £33 ; 700 bags of yellows have also found buyers at £28 10s to £30. Teas likewise command attention. A line of 200 boxes has been placed at 13d, and 200 half-chests were quitted at 12d and 13d. In another instance, 750 halfchests common congous were taken up on private terms. 2500 packages will be submitted to competition to-morrow forenoon. A telegram has just been received, dated Hongkong, June 12, giving the information that the tea season has been opened at Foochow. The quality of the first crop is reported as equal to last year. There is nothing definite stated regarding the Tael. Exchange on London was quoted at 4s for four mouths' sight bills. The Brisbane, steamer, was I expected to leave with the first cargo for Sydney and colonies northward about the loth, while the Killarney, stei'.mer, loading for Melbourne, was expected to leave about the 20th inst. Wo may, therefore, anticipate the arrival here of the first of the new tea? on tho 20th of next month, or a few days laler. Kerosene oil has had business. Five hundred cases low-test oil have been disposed of at Hid while 1000 cases Standard oil have been quitted at our quotation of Is I.VI. A shipment of 500 barrelß Portland cement has changed hands at 18s. Candles are still meeting with favour; 300 boxes of Jonars have boon sold in parcels at !)d. Woolpacks have again been noticed; we hear of 100 bales having been taken up at 2s Gd, duty-paid. Eighty-five packages leaf and strip tobacco havo found buyers on private terms. In liquids, we note trade sales of Bass's bulk ales at £8 10s ; a sale of Johnson's bottled stout to the extent of 100 packages, quarts aud pints, chiefly the former, all of this brand, on the spot and to arrive, being thus cleared off. A shipment of 50 quarters Thom and Cameron's has been disposed of at a full price. Trnde sales of MurteU's case brandy are mentioned at 325. SYDNEY. Tho Sydney Mornhy Ucmld of the 9th inst. reports :—ln the stock and sharo market today there was more business doing, but without any improvement in price. Bank shares had most of the investments. New Zealand inquired for at 18iJ, held for lPj , . Business in the import markets was without improvement, and the only sales of any importance were at auction. Messrs. Fraser and Co. offered the cargo of Mauritius sugar ex Alico Mary, and although the importers were disposed to do business at a reduction on late quotations, as evidenced by the prices accepted for some lines sold, the trade did not respond. Low counters wore quitted at £2G 5a to £2G 10a, anil line qualities wure sold at up to £30. The bulk of the cargo was withdrawn. 840 boxes D.K.J, candles sold with all faults at 7.-J.l to 7:H ; I'iigle brand condensed milk at 8s 2d, dairy-made at Gs 10d. New Caledonia coffee, 7Jd. Messrs. Lorimor, Rome and Co.'s balances of lnet season's shipments of tens., and of 18780, ex Barbara Taylor, were nil cleared at Is ljd to Iβ lid per lb. for fair to good congous, mid up to s'Jd per half-chest for medium. The quotations for local produce on tho wharves to-day, were—Maize, 2s G.I to 2s 7d ; oaten hay, £0 10s to £7 ; lucerno; £3 to £:{ r>3 ; cheese, 4d to 6<l ; bacon, Sd to Od ; Warrnambool potatoes, £4 15s to £5 j Tasmaiiian, £5 to £5 ss.
