VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

A project to form a corps of marine artillery in connection with the Auckland Naval Brigade has been originated and submitted to the officers and non-commissioned officers. After due consideration, it was decided to accept the corps under specific arrangements. A requisition was sent in from 27 members, offering to join the marine artillery, under the brigade, to assist in working the big gunsiand torpedo boats The company will, no doubt, receive additional strength in a few days, and as it is to work in unison with the Naval Brigade, and, in fact, form part of that brigade, we have no doubt it willbe a success.

The quarterly competition for the District Belt, Thames, took place on Wednesday, the 11th of June. The belt was won by Seaman Armstrong, T.N.8., with thefino score of 51 points out of a posaibleGO. P. O. Thomas, T.N.8., who was close up with a score of 51, took second prize. The other prize-takers were Sergeant McLeod, T. S.V., 50; Sergeant Clark, H.E., 49; and P. O. Gor.lon, T.N.8., 48.

Captain Wildman, of the Thames Naval Brigade, left, per s.s. Eotomahana, on June 16, era route for Wellington. The Brigade mustered in great strength, and accompanied him to the boat. A farewell bumper was drunk on board. Mr. W. Rowe, in feeling terms, proposed the toast of the occasion. Besides the Brigade, there were between 200 and 300 citizens on the wharf, several rounds of cheers were given for the gallant captain, who had become a universal favourite with the men under his command.
