PORT ALBERT.

Tup. half-yearly meeting of shareholders of the Port Albert Co-operative Store was held on Saturday, January 11th, a large number being present. The balance-sheet was as follows :—Goods in stock, £1306 Os 9il ; buildings, £215 ; rents, £12; gootls advanced on produce, £G8 16s Gd; half-year's insurance, £4 4s 4d; cash in hand by manager, £9 8s 2d : total, £IGIS 9s 9d. Due to creditors, £570 18s 9d ; shareholders, £749 ; balance, £295 11a: total, £1615 9a 9d. The greater part of the meeting was occupied in considering the present state of the trade between the Wairoa and here. Some little dissatisfaction was expressed by some present with regard to this trade. All holders of shares seem very confident concerning the present and future prosperity of the business The stock in hand aud the demand for the same are much greater now than even before, which is plainly made manifest by the extra assistance in the management having to bo obtained of late. The weather here is rather too dry for our farmers. All grass-fields are looking very brown aud baro, and the poor cattlo suffer from a short supply of water. But for holi-day-makers the weather is all that could be defiired. 'l'ho Saturday Half holiday Club gave a picnic to a large number of friends a short time ago. '1 he use of Mr. Becroft's grouQds was kindly leut for the occasion. All present appeared to enjoy themselves. Games of various kinds were indulged in during the day, while a liberal and nicely.arranged luncheon and tea were provided for all present.—[Own Correspondent, Jan. 24.]
