POKENO HILL.
The children attending tho day-school and Sabbath-school of Pokeno Hill were last Friday, through the kinduess of several lady friends, entertained at a grand feast. This is the first treat «<f the kiud which has been given here, aud judi;iug from the beaming counteuances of both old and young, it is not likely to be the last. The children, to the number of about fifty, assembled in the school about 10 o'clock, aud after singing a hymn, marched to one of the paddocks belonging to Mr. E. Rhode?, kindly granted for the occasion, where they were joined by others from a distant part of the neighbourhood. Luncheon was immediately provided for tho j'ouogster*, who, it need scarcely be said, did ample justice to tho good things set before them, after which the day's pleasure began in right earnest. A variety of games were then en- i gaged in, consisting of swings, cricket, and climbing the greasy-pole. The latter feat afforded considerable amusement to the children, as it was no easy job to climb up to tho top and seize the tempting lollies. Refreshments were liberally served out during the day by the ladies, who, it should j be said, were very attentive to the wants of \ all. It was truly a gala-day,—a day of fun, and mirth, and frolic which will not soon be forgotten. At the close, a hearty vote of thanks was awarded to those who had provided tho entertainment. After singing a hymn, the large gathering dispersed, and Each took off h!a several way, Resolved to meet some Ither day. —[A Correspondent.]
