THE GOLDFIELDS.

[FROM OOR OWN CORRMFbNDKNT.]

Thames, Friday. Caledonian.—The manager has started to drive on the foot wall of No. 2 lode from the main cross cut. This point i 3 much nearer the shaft than the former drive, and consequently there will be a great saving in the cost of trucking. The drive ia going through good country, and is carrying with it a small vein, lying a little off the main lode, which is highly mineralised. Work in the drive going south has beeu stopped for the present. A start has been made to cut through the lode in the Ofcago upper workings. The quartz here is rich in mineral and copper pyrites, and has good indications, tlerivall and party have started another crushing. They will have about 18 loads to put through. Lowe and party have also commenced crushing another parcel of about 20 loads. Eowe's tribute : The cross-cut has been driven about 150 feet. Yesterday a nice healthy-looking leader was intersected. The country is excellent, and from the appearance of the stone the manager is sanguine that it will prove to be gold-bearing. A start Trill be made at once to drive both ways on this lode, and a trial will be made of it as soon as possible. Curb.—During the past week the junction of Morrison's and Gilinour's leaders came to hand, and, as anticipated, a good haul of specimens and picked stone was brought to pass. In the drive the lode is split, but each small vein is yielding good crushing dirt. In the leading stope there are two good leaders. The country is very tight and is rather difficult to work. Crushing will be started next Monday, when there will be from 40 to 50 tons to put through. Besides this there are about oOOlbs. of specimens and picked stone, which will add materially to the return. The manager anticipates a first-class return from the whole parcel.
