The Customs receipts to-day were £473 2s 4d. Mr. Buckland offered by public auction, at the Haymaiket this morning, the freehold property of Mr. J. B. H-i-y, of Papakma, better known as the Woodstock estaie, comprising 1910 acres, with large homestead, outbildings, <Stc. The auctioneer read over the terms of sale, one clause of which stated that the sum of £4000 could remain on mortgage at 8 per cent, per annum for a term of years to be agreed upon. The attendance was large, and, notwithstanding the eloquence of the auctioneer, the bidding was languid, and the property was withdrawn. The first bid was 70s per acre, then 755, but beyond 1 hat no legitimate. offer was made, arid Mr. Buckland intimated the reserve price was £5 per acre.
Mr. K. Arthur's sale of poultry, produce, kc. , to-day, was not so well attended as usual. A fair amount of business wasdoue. A number of the poultry entered were inferior, so that prices were low. Butter could not be quitted at auction ; but little enquiry through the w«ek. Potatoes continue dull of sale. There has b»en a good demand for cheese of good quality, but few on hand to be submitted by auction. The following are the prices realised :—Fowls, lid to Is 7d each ; ducks, Is 7d to 2s 7d ; peafowls, 4s ; turkeys, 2s Cd to 3s ; geese, 3s Gd ; potatoes, 2s to 3a (3d per cwt. ; carrots, 3s 9d per cwt. ; pumpkins, 3s Gd per cwt. ; onions, to Id per lb. ; cheese, 3d to 7d per lb. ; Canterbury bacon. 7d to 7Ad per lb. ; provincial bacon, 3d to o£d per lb. ; bait butter, .id to lid per lb. ; beef, to 2d per lb. ; washing soda, 9s 6d per cwt. ; candles, ; box tea, 21s ; biscuits, 6d per lb. There was a large attendance at the furniture department sale. A large quantity of second-hand goods sold at good prices, and a fair amount of business was done in new furniture. The sale coutiuued to a late hour.
Mr. K. Arthur submitted to public competition yesterday, at his laud sale-room, a, dwell-ing-house containing six rooms and a freehold allotment, haying 38£ feet frontage to Karangahape Road, situated near to Queen-street. A good number of persons were present, but bidding was languid. The property sold at £490.
