SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

CHURCH OP ENGLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL, PARNELL. Tins anuual distribution of prizes took place yesterday, in the presence of a large assemblage of the parents and friends of the pupils. The Ven. Three cheers were given for the Chairman, for the Head-master, and parents and guardians. During the present week the children attending the girls' school and the boys' school iu the Mouut Hobson Educational District have undergone their usual examination, and yesterday the ceremony of distributing the prizes took place, and passed off with much eclat. The hour for commencing was 2 o'clock, and the building in which the ceremony was held—the recently-erected boys' school ou the Epsom Road. There were about 00 boys, 70 girls, an d 20 parents and friends present. Mr. F. G. Clayton (chairman of the School Committee), presided, and made a short opening address. In response to a call from the Chairman, the Itev. G. B. Monro also briefly addressed the sluldret*. The prizes were then distributed. At the conclusion of the distribution the Chairman presented to Mr. Airey, assistant teacher, on behalf of the boys of the school, an inkstand, as a mark of the esteem in which they held him, and of their appreciation of his labours for their benefit. The presentation was in the form of a farewell gifc, as Mr. Airey is leaving the district to assume the charge of the Maugere school.—The Chairman then took occasion to express the thanks of the children to the Rev. Mr. Munrc for the time and attention he had devoted to their examination.—The rev. gentleman acknowledged the compliment, and, in doing so, eulogised the conduct of the school, and the decorous behaviour of the scholars.—Votes of thanks having beeu accordcd with acclamation to the School Committee, the teachers, and the friends who had subscribed towards the purchase of the prizes, the proceedings terminated.

RETREAT LADIES' SEMINARY (MANAKAU ROAD, PARNELL). The young ladies of Miss Kobertßhaw's Seminar}* assembled yesterday to receive the annual prizes. The report of the examinations described them as satisfactory. The following are the names of the prize-wiuner3 : ■ —First examination prize, Miss McColl; second examination prize, Miss A. Copland ; drawing, Miss Bruce ; general excellence in conduct and studies, Miss Cunningham ; music, Miss Hogg ; Latin, M!iss McColl.
