New Zealand Herald Oflice. Thursday evening. The total amount of duties collected at the Customs to-day was £534 Is. Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son held a Rale of books to-day, comprising upwards of 500 volumes of works on theology, science, classics, fiction, «S:c. The attendance of the trade ami the general public was Jiirge, and a verj T satisfactory sale was the result. Mr. Cl. W. Binney held a trado sale of beer, bacon, jams, tobacco, &c. The attendance of the trade was limited, but t.he following prices were obtained : —Pollard. £n 2s (J! ; damaged jams, Gs ; Peak's jar jams, 3\ s I ; bacon (bare), C£d ; bacon and hams (in cloth), S-ld ; Picton butter, 7h<\ ; dates, ; groats, 2s (id ; brown packing paper, 3d.
