TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have observed an article in your issue of the 20th ult., headed "A cause of preat evil," aud 1 can safely say, and ninetenths of all hona fide settlers endorse it, the statements of the person who called upon you are decidedly onesided and unfair. Wo have such settlers ia the Waikato, and we know the class well. They put in half an acre of potatoes, ditto wheat, and a few cabbages. They are too indolent to put any kind of fencing up; and, of course, the country for ten miles round is to be cleared of stock, lest harm should come to these.
