COUNTRY NEWS.

ARARIMU SOUTH. We had divine service in the new schoolroom here on the morning of the 23rd mat., when the Kev. T. Norrie preached to an audience of about thirty, including a few of the settlers of the neighbouring districts of Hunua and Maketn. The singing was ably led by Mr. Shaw. The building is neat and commodious, and reflects credit on the few settlers who had.it.erected. It coat about £50, and there are only a few pounds of debt upon it. The, site was given .by Mr. F. Mauder. The day-school is flourishing, under the care of Mr. Cooper, who has also opened a Sunday-school. Occasional religious services will be held on Sundays, and Mr. Norrie has promised to give us a quarterly visit, and conduct service on weekday evenings. Great progress is being made in the district, and the marks of industry and energy are seen all around. —[A Correspondent.] .._

The number woald have been larger, but for the weather being very unfavourable and the river being flooded which many of the settlers have to cross. YVe are glad to see that the Board of Education, have at last made a liberal grant for the erection'of a : school-house here, and we ex-. ■ pect that now it will soon, be erected.— [Correspondent.]
