FLOATAGE OF TIMBER IN THE MANGATAWHIRI STREAM.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sir,—lt is to be hoped that the Government will consult their engineer before any license is granted to float l»g timber down. the Mangatawhiri stream, to endanger the lives in the passenger trains, as it is well known that log timber has carried away, within the last few months, valuable bridges and dams, and in fact has cleared before it in the upper part of the stream, and with such another flood as we had a few months ago, will clear everything below. It will then be " Good-bye to the Mangatawhiri Railway Bridge."—l am, &c, Danger.
