LORNE-STREET HALL.

A CONCERT and ball was given last night in the above building, "under the auspices of a joint committee of the Fountain of Friendship Lodge, 10.0. F., and Saturday nights' entertainment committee," the proceeds being intended for a benevolent purpose. The nail was crowded, and the audience most demonstrative in their appreciation; indeed, so exacting were they, that out of 19 items which comprised the programme, 10 were encored. Mr. Shields took the audience literally by storm with his comic song, and though he endeavoured to obviate complying with a recall, by simply bowing his acknowledgments, the attempt proved futile, and he was obliged to reappear. The mirth was not evoked by the song, but by the strange antics with which it was accompanied. Miss "Woods, Mrs. Horner, and Messrs. Carter and Teague, were also successful in their several songs. The entertainment on the whole was above the average of amateur performances. The programme was as follows :—Song, " Rose, Thistle, and Shamrock," Mr. Carter; song, "Chime again, Beautiful Bells," Miss Sinclair; comic song, "Shabby Genteel," Mr. William Doran; song, "Thy Voice is Near," Mr. Jameson ; song, " Home to My Darling Again," Miss Ash ; song, "1 always take it easy," Mr. G. H. Forder; double song and dance, Messrs. O'Hare and Forbes ; motto song, "Pull Yourselves Together, Boys," Mr. Davey; song, "Belle Mahone," Mx. Nairn; aong, " Whip-poor-Will," Miss Horner; comic song, Miss Dean ; American prize jig, Mr. E. Clair; Irish song and dance, " PatMoran," Master E. Carter; duet, " W r hen you Gang Awa', Jamie," Mrs. Horner and Mr. Carter. The ball was commenced shortly after the conclusion of the above, and dancing engaged in with zest until an early hour this morning, Mr. Henry TVaite acted as stage manager, and Mr. C. B. Andrews as master of ceremonies.
