ACCIDENT AT TUAKAU.—NARROW ESCAPE.

On Monday last tlie son of Mr. John Poland, Tuakau, storekeeper, had a very narrow escape from being killed. While driving a dray, loaded with wood, it camo into contact with the stump of a tree, which upset the dray, burying the young man under it. A younger brother who was along with him, and who escaped unhurt, ran to get assistance, expecting the worst consequences. Two of the settlers came, got the dray raised, and, to their joy, found the young man less hurt than they could possibly have conceived. Dr. Corbett, being in town they could get no medical assistance till his return by the evening train, when he went to see the lad, and found that he was much bruised, and that the right arm had sustained a fracture of the principal bone. Young Poland has been only a few months in the colony, having lately come here from the old country. ,
