ST. MATTHEW'S PARISH.

ANNUAL MEETING OF TAKIsniONEKS. The animal meeting of parishioners of tliis parish took place last evening, in the schoolhouse attached to St. Matthew's Church. The Rev. TL S. Hassard, M.A., Incumbent, occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the report and balance-sheet, which we cannot find space for to-day, wore read and adopted by the meeting. The financial statement shewed that the present offertory was £535 19a Sd; special offertories, £146 lis 3d; pew rents, £292 14s 9d; endowment fund, £54 2s Gd; balance, £22 19s 4d. Total, £1052 7s sd. On the question of electing churchwardens for the ensuing year, the Hev. Mr. Hassard nominated Mr. Doonin as incumbent's warden and Captain Williams was elected on behalf of the parishioners. The following parishioners were elected vestrymen :—Dr.. Hooper, Col. Haulfcain, Messrs. Vickers, J. Henderson, S. Burtt, JR. T. Warner, Ward, Diekson, TVoolley, and J. C. Morrin. Mr. Cadinan gave notice that he would move at next meeting that pew rents be abolished in the church. The Chairman drew attention to the desirability of opening a third parochial district within the boundaries of St. Matthew's and St. Sepulchre's parishes. He recommended that two members be elected to join the committee appointed by the Synod to consider the matter, and to collect subscriptions towards the erection of a school-house. Mr. Doonin moved, "That in the event of £100 being collected in the parish, a grant of £50 be made, and a sum of £150 be borrowed to complete the buildms-" The motion was carried, and Colonel Haultain, Dr. Hooper, Captain Williams, and the Incumbent, were elected as a committee to carry out the object, and act as trustees to the fund. The Chairman reported that the churchwindow ordered had arrived from home, and it rested with the parishioners to say where it should be erected. After some discussion, Mr. Doonin proposed "That a committee be appointed to carry out the erection of the window. The committee to consist of the Incumbent and churchwardens' and Messrs. Dickson, Wright, Shayle' Henderson and Dawson; and that the said committee be empowered to expend a sum not exceeding £40 in the work." The motion was carried. Upon the motion of Mr. Doonin, the Incumbent vacated the chair in favour of Dr. Hooper, and a motion was then carried by acclamation, " That the yearly stipend of the incumbent be increased to £400. A vote of thanks was accorded to the teachers of the Sunday-school and the members of the choir, A vote of thanks was also passed to the trustees.
