THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
Rodney.—"We understand that Mr. Sheehau, who arrived in Auckland yesterday from intends to contest Rodney, and not to stand for the Thames, for which he W been nominated. He will at once publish an address to the electors of Rodney. W Air a.—The nomination for Waipa took place on Wednesday.—Mr. Roche proposed Mr. Edward G-. McMinn as a fit and proper person to represent the constituency.—Mr. Hadfield seconded the proposal of Mr McMinn. --Mr. S. Steele proposed Mr. A. Cox,—Mr. Johns, man able speech, seconded this proposition.—Mr. Mcilinn then addressed the electors. Much as he respected Sir George Grey, and high as was his opinion of him in other respects, he should oppose him both on the question of the sustentation of Provincialism in any aud every forir, and in the Separation o£ the colony.— Mr. Roche: Am I to understand you that you are going in to oppose Sir George Grey 1 —Mr. McMinn : I am going 'n as a free lance, but I will not support "himhis attempt to retain the provinces or to erect Auckland into a separate colony.—Mr. Cox addressed the electors. He wiis neither a supporter or opposer of the present Ministry, but an absolute supporter of Abolition. He had just one thing more to say. He quite agreed with Mr. Roche that Sir George was an exceedingly useful man in the Opposition, and if returned he should so vote as always to keep him there.—A show of hands being called by the Returning Officer, there were— For Cox, 24; McMinn, 3.
