MR. CARLETON AT PANMURE.
Mr. Cakleton", pursuant to notice, met the electors of Eden yesterday evening, at the Panmure Hotel. Not many shewed at the time appointed, but, by waiting till S o'clock, a good atteudance was at last secured. Mr. Carleton "was "well received. He claimed the people of Panmure as old friends, o£ those grand old electioneering times which we were not likely to see, when electors were more in earnest than now. He had fought alongside of some of them, and against others; but he claimed even his old opponents as friends, for his experienco was that people liked each other the better for having had a good fight. He said that the only objection that conld be brought against him was that he was not a resident within the district. The real question was, however, who could be most useful. Some amusement was created by the candidate saying that, if the objection were seriously entertained, he was willing to meet it by buying into the district. He had not much to do in the North, and, .in truth, would not be sorry, aa a mnsical man, for an excuse to live nearer than he did to the Choral Hall. The ground which the candidate travelled over was nearly the same as that at Newmarket on the preceding day, and the. efore need not be reported at length. Not many questions were asked. Those which, were put related to education, the property-tar, and the lessening the numbers of members of the Souse. They appeared to be answered tfa the satisfaction of the meeting.—After the customary votes of thanks to the candidate and to the chairman, the meeting broke up.
