POLICE COURT.— Tuesday. ["Before Messrs. Robert Graham, A. K. Taylor, and P. A. Philips, Justices of tbe Peace.] Dkukkenness. —Four persons wsre fined for drunkenness. ■AssACi/r.— James Lambert was charged with assaulting Bridget Boyle, on the 26th instant. Thos. Boyle deposed that he invited the prisoner to spend Christmas Day at his house, and enjoy himself, but towards evening he became very noisy. Whei.-eupon he ordered him to leave his premises. This he refused to do, and, in ejecting him, the prisoner struck at him, but the blow descended on his wife's eye. Bridget Eoyle, who had a black-eye, gave similar evidence, and, in answer to the Bench, said that the prisoner " only had a small droT) of brau&y in her house." Fined 40s and costs, or three days' imprisonment Breach of Merchant Shipping Act. — William Robins was charged with a breach of the Merchant Shipping Act, by assaulting Charles McLoughliu, chief oflicer of the barque Fox, on Christmas Pay. Mr. Laishley, for the accused, denied the charge, and applied for a remand to produce witnesses. Kemauded until Thursday. Larceny. — Harriet J. Steward was charged with larceny, as bailee, o£ several articles of clothing, value £10. Inspector Broham asked for a remand until Thursday, which was granted. Breacii of tue Licensing Act.—Andrew Kirkwood was fined 5s and costs for a breach of the 60th clause o£ this Act, by being drunk in Parnell. Breach ok the Municipal Police Act.— William Bullen was fined 5s and costs for driving his cart on the footpath on Park Road.° Charles Lyon was also fined 5s aud costs for a similar offence. Assaolt. —George Crummer was charged with assaulting his wife, Mary Jane Crummer Mr. Laishley appeared for the complainant, and Mr. W. H. Kissling for the defendant. An adjournment was granted until Tuesday next. Lunacy.—Edward Kenedy, charged, with lunacy, was remanded until to-morrow. This was all the business.

OTAHTJHXJ R.M. COURT.— Tuesday.

[Before K. C. Barstow, Esq., K.M.] Ckiminal Cases. —W. fPatterson was charged with a breach of the Vagrant Act, by using improper language and gesticulation. Fined 20s and 19s costs. _J Cargo was charged by Constable Gamble with a breach of the Auckland Munnicipal Police Act, to wit, driving without reins to his leading horse. Offence admitted contritely. Fined 6s and 6s 6cl eosts. —George Cowley was charged by the same officer of the peace with a similar offence, and was dealt with in the same manner.—b. Bright was charged by peace officer Gamble, upo'ri information received by him, that the said Samuel Bright did use very strong language and violent gestures towards one Thomas Cleary, at Panmure. The defendant said he always spoke the truth, and would admit the charge; but he did it to have satisfaction, as Cleary had destroyed his face when he was very drunk. Fined 20s and 32s costs.—Mary Bright was charged, under the Vagrant Act, with using very improper adjectives to one Mary Cleary, besides calling her " long-legged Mary Cleary." The defendant indignantly denied having used such improper epithets, but admitted calling her "long-legged Mary Cleary, and the plaintiff certainly did not prove her case. Case dismissed accordingly, each party to pay their own costs.—John Paton was charged by Constable Gamble with using very bad language in a public thoroughfare. The offence was admitted, and the Court severely admonished the delinquent, and ordered him to pay a fine of os, and costs 23s Cd. 4 CrviL Oases.—Hale v. H. McKevey: Claim, £1 7s. The debt was admitted, but defendaut thought that, as he was an infant in law, he should not be asked to pay. The Court said that as he was not too young to eat, he must p,y for his board. 19s paid into Court—the balance to be paid next Court-da 3%—Kiglar v Negus : Claim, £13 Gs 7d. This case was settled without the intervention of the Court.— Kiglar v. Thos. Gallagher : Claim, i £7 2s 6d. The debt had been owing three vearr, and during that time he had paid only 7s Gd of it. The Court thought it very wron« for him to eat the plaintiff's meat, and not pay fo:- it more readily. The de fendaut said he was only a poor old man with a shilling a-day pension, but had been in constant employment for several years at 4s a-day. Ordered to pay £1 every pension day.

WAIUKU R.M. COURT.— Friday. j FBeforo Thouiai Jackson, Ks<j., K.M., and V. J HarrLs, Esq., J.P.J \ Threatened Assault.—B. McGrath, of Patumahoe, was charged by his wife, Alary McGrath, with assaulting her, by threatening to cut her head off with an axe. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was bound over to keep the peace for six months in the sum o£ £20, and £1 Os 2d costs. Assault. Watani was arrested on warrant, charged with assaulting another native at Awhitu, with a gum spear. Defendant pleaded guilty, under extenuating I circumstances, stating that the prosecutor had taken improper liberties with his wife. Fined £2 and costs, or one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Civil Cares.-S. A. Oldfield v. D. Munroe : Claim £3 17s 4d, goods supplied. Judgment for plaintiff, to be paid by weekly instalments of 10s each, and 10s costs. Gifford v. Moore : Claim £30 for splitting posts and rails, and 16 weeks' work at 30s per week. After a large amount of evidence had been adduced the Court gave judgment for the plaintiff for £4 17s, aud costs £2 15s.
