PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.

A new season commenced ou Saturday, and was inaugurated by the production of Boucicault's sensational dramai " After Dark," with a strong cast. iikejjJil the later compositions of this prolific playwright, it is avowedly written to suit a ptopular taste rather than upon any artistic rnVdel. Miss Carry George took the rok of FanV Dalton, Mr. K. "W. Lawrence that of Old iom, Mr. G. W. Collier that of Dicey Morris. These three parts were most excellently played. Mr. Charles Searle was Chandos Bellingham, alias Knatchbull; Mr. Tom Burton, Gordon Chumley; Mr. Sweeney, George Medhurst. Indeed, the whole performance was satisfactory. Mr. Sam Poole as Area Jack, and Mr. Herbert as Bargee, supplied somehumorous low-comedy scenes, which produced a good deal of merriment. The scenery by Mr. N. H. Thornton was particularly good. The under-ground railway, the passing train, the dark arches of Blackfriars were good specimens of topographical representation and elicted much encomium. There was a good house. We observe that Miss Jennie Nye, a danseuse and burlesque actress, has been engaged and will make her first appearance to-morrow. She is favourably spoken of by the New Zealand and Australian Press. The management is likely to be successfid. New pieces are announced to follow each other rapidly.
