. HARBOUR BOARD. !Thb ordinary fortnightly meeting- was held yesterday,—Captain Daldy, Chairman of the Bbard, presiding. Present —Messrs. Nicol, Tole, Eaton, Campbell, Buchanan, Mays, McKenzie, Macfarlane, Hill, Brett, Cosgrave, and Boylan.

Minutes.—The Secretary read the minutes of- the last fortnightly meeting, which were confirmed.

Correspondence.—Letters were received from Messrs. Kinniple and Co., relating to the proposed structure of graying dock and caisson. It was resolved that copies of those letters should be forwarded to Mr. Moriarty. —A letter was received from Mr. James Cruickshank, agent in London, confirming the information of the successful floating of the loan.

The Harbour Loan.—Tho debentures were sold for £9S 17s IOJd. The following is a synopsis of the parcels as allotted: — The amount subscribed' for was £134,000, at from £9S to £101 Gs Sd. The largest lot taken was £50,000, at £9S 0s Gd, of which £23,000 was allotted ; £32,400 was taken at £9S 10s ; 4) was allotted at £100 Is Cd ; and £5000 at £100 2s Gd, £900 at £101, «unl ifiOO at £101 ss. Air. Crombie, formerly photographer ill Auckland, took £2000. Tlie terms were £5 payable on application, and the remainder on the 10th of Julv. The floating of this loan was stated to be" a highly successful financial operation, for which the Chairman of the Board and the agents employed have received the acknowledgments of the Board.

Correspondence. — Tha Chief Harbourmaster sent in a notification of the death of the signalman, Thomas Duder. The appointment of a successor was referred to the Pilot Service Committee, with power to .act. —A letter was received from the Chief Harbourmaster, asking for an addition to the pilot-boat crew. Referred to the Pilot Ser-vico Committee.— A letter was received from Mr. Dufaur, relating to the contract of McCabe and Walsh. It will be reo&Jlected that thero was a difference between the contractors and the engineer to the Board, the contractors contending that the work they were ordered to put in was of a more costly kind than they:had tendered for. Mr. Dufaur now forwarded the opinions of Messrs. Beetham, Qaodall, and Cameron, corroborative of tho statement of the contractors. The contractors also complain that since April last they, had only received £200, while they had .paid upwards of £200 in wages, material, <fcc.

Break.water,:Cqntract.—The report enclosed from Mesgrs. Beetham, Goodall, and Cameron stated! that the more costly and superior kind o£> work was rendered necessary, with a - view to the stability of the structure.—The- Chairman said tho letter! had been received only about half-an-hour before tho meeting of the Board. He proposed that the papers should be sent to. Mr. McDonald,.the engineer, who would be requested to. answer the statement cr>tegorically, and; upon the auswer being received, tiat the Works Comuittee should sit immediately-to consider both statements., —A greed..*to.

Printing;— The Chairman Baid that -in respect,to a letter received from Mr. Geo. Jones, juni, the covrse adopted in respect to all other newspapers had been and moved that the letter addresssed to them tbe received. He might also state the decision was taken by five gentlemen on the coianiitteo. The proposal was, that no aefcien should be taken in such matters until the newspaper, in behalf of which the application was made, should be in, existence ror twelve months. Agreed to.. Pakxell : KsDowMiocfti, Water for Sniri'isci.—The Chairaian stated that be addressed a letter to the Government while in Wellington, asking that the Paroell Road should be metalled ; also,, that the proposed Harbour Bill should make the alterations for the endowments as suggested by the "Board, and further, that the surplus water not actually required for railway purposes from the railway reservoir, should be handed over to the Harbour Board.—Letters were received, to the effect that these suggestions would be complied with.

Pkbentukes oit ISCo.—These debentures (£25,000), which were deposited in the Supreme Court until retired, the Chairman thought should be taken over with the securities. 11l this way it was estimated a benefit might be obtained for the Board equivalent to several hundred pounds. Main Skwkr.—Mr. Buchanan moved, " That it is desirable that the n.ain sewer at Queen-street should be carried out to deep water."—The Chairman said he would with pleasure second the motion, as there would shortly be an authoritative report published 011 tho subject, which was at present under consideration of a body of engineers in Sydney.—Mr. Macfarlane wished to know who was the engineer for the silt-basin.—A member would like to know how these silt-basins came to be originated. —Mr. Cosgrave thought that it was very desirable that some information should bo laid before the Board upon the subject.—The Chairman said there must be some minutes relating to them. He believed they were tho result of the joint action of the Board and the City Council.—Motion agreed to. TiiK Timber 'Trade. —Mr. MeKenzie moved, " That steps be taken to provide the necessary accommodation for the timber trade." —Mr. Is'icol seconded the motion, which was carried.
