HIGHWAY BOARD MEETINGS.

RUARANGI. The annual meeting of ratepayers of this Highway District was held on the 31st July, at Mr. S. Boyd's house. ifr. A. Wintle occupied the chair. There were only ten ratepayers present. The rate was fixed at Id in the £ on the value to sell. The following gentlemen were elected trustees for the ensuing year : Messrs. Wm. Fraser, Wm. Bullions, Thomas Weir, Henry Symonds, and James Kountree. Auditors: Messrs. Thomas Hunter and John Saleman. Fenceviewers: Messrs. Wm. Kraser and William McAlister. The trustees held a meeting afterwards aud elected Mr. Wm. Fraser chairman, and Mr. James Kountree Becretary and treasurer. There was some difficulty in getting trustees to stand, owing to the former Board having spent money on private property. Iu one instance a road has been stopped, to the disadvantage of some back settlers. The person occupying the land where the road is stopped agreed to give a right-of-way through the property free, if the Hoard would do some work outside. They did not fulfil their agreement, but epent the money on private property, and then summoned the person for his rate, so he stopped the road. The late Board would not settle the matter, but left the present Board to do as best they could without funds in hand. It is to be hoped the present Board will endeavour to get all such disputes settled before they give up oliicc—[Correspondent.] WAIKIEKIE.
