Tin: annual meeting of the settlers for the election of the School Committee for the current year was held in the school-room on Saturday, January 30. Mr. F. Sid well. sen., was called to the chair. —Major Stoney, Chairman of the late Board, said it was not usual, oil occasions like the present, to read a written statement; he therefore would give a verbal one. The committee had held several meetings during the year, and twice during that time the children attending the school had been examined by the Government Inspector. Mrs. Krippner, the late schoolmistress, through ill-health, had resigned the management of the school, and at the suggestion of Mr. Moss they had appointed Mr. Morton to take charge of it. The trustees had also arranged to give Mr. Maurice Kelly £:j0 ayear rent for the school the teacher to pay l'-0 of it. The committee had enquired of Mr. U'.Sullivan if the Central Hoard were in a position to give f.'oO towards the erection of a school-house, and he said they were not. —-Several persons were nominated as committeemen and, after the votes had been recorded, the five highest were—Messis. Stoney, E. Bond, B. Mrnnton, !*\ Sidwell, and J. Moll'att. I would suggest to the incoming committee that, as there are three churches in the district which are seldom used for devotional purposes, an application be made to the trustees of these buildings to allow one of them to be used for educational purposes, which would be a saving to this poor district of £30 a-ycar ; it would also be advisable for the Central Board to rcpiest that a return be made of the number of children between the ages of t.ix and fourteen, who reside within three miles of the present school-house —[Correspondent, January oO.J
