Legal proceedings are being taken by the owners of the Paterson against the Victorian Insurance Company to enforce the claim under the policy of insurance granted upon the vessel. His Excellency the Governor has gone on visit to the Fielding block, where about SOD immigrants are now settled. He will then visit Mr. Fox at West Roe. WANGANUI, Wednesday. A boy was accidentally shot through the hand and side yesterday. Two fingers were amputated. PUNEDIN, Wednesday. At a meeting of the priucipal miniate; 3 aud influential citizens it was decided to form an association to cheapen the cost of funerals aud simplify the present mode of interment. Some ballasting trucks were left on the Green Island line this morning, aud a passenger train ran into them. Nine of the passengers were seriously injured, and others severely bruised. The fault lay With the company's loeomotivo foreman, who was immediately dismissed. At to-day's meeting D. L. Simpson was appointed engineer of the harbour ivorks, at a salary of £1000 per annum.
