INTER-PROVINCIAL. [PER AXGLO-AUSTRALIAX TELEGRAM COllPAXV.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. George Doxxe is the successful tenderer for advertising on the following railway lines : —Auckland to Mercer, Nelson to Fox Picton to Blenheim, Brunner to Greymouth. The Victoria Insurance Company refuse to pay one thousand pounds for which tlio steamer I'aterson was insured in that office. The South British, New Zealand, and National have paid their losses—£4ooo in all. NAPIER. Tuesday. Diuwiddie, Morrison and Co. are the successful tenderers for the right of advertising on the Napier railway lines, from the Spit to Napier, &c. REEFTON (Nelson), Tuesday. In No. 2, South Larry's, stone lias been struck said to be equal to the Caledonian. WESTPORT, Tuesday. A prospectus has been issued of a new steam company, to provide a steamer expressly suited for the bar harbour of this province. DUNEDIX, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Harbour Board today, a letter was read from the Government, stating that it would be prepared to hand over everything connected with the harbour department to the Chief Harbourmaster, he being the only officer placed under the entire control of the Board. The Financial Committee recommend that the Board's account be placed in the Colonial Bank. On the subject of Debentures, it was resolved that mortgage forms for £50,000 be prepared. The term of the loan is for thirty years, from the first of January next, interest and principal payable at Dunedin, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, or London, the lirst issue being for i' 20,000. Resolutions, giving effect to the Committee's recommendations were adopted. Mr. J. L. Gillies has been appointed treasurer. It is stated that the Board has £00,000 in hand at present. PROVINCIAL. [FROM OUR OWX CORRESPONDENTS.] THAMES, Tuesday. The Coliban obtained 50 lbs. of good specimens to-day from the new winze on the old lode. The Manukau are now crushing specimens, and will retort to-morrow. They will not run above sixteen days, owing to stoppages. An average of about 2 ozs. per ton is expected. The Loyalty got a little good stone from the new reef recently discovered. The size of the reef is over six feet. The Bright Smile fortnight's gold melted to 33S ozs. 13 dwts. The Cure gold only lost 2 J ozs. in melting. Market quiet. Sales ; Caledonian, £5 5s ; Golden Calf (new), as; Bird-in-Hand, lGs. Buyers : Caledonian, £5 ss; Cure, 10s; City of London, 245; City of York (call paid), ss. Mr. James Maclcay, jun., has issued a notice that all persons having claims to land in the Cape Colville, Waikawau, and Ohinemuri blocks are to meet at Ohinemuri on the 9th instant, to arrange about the money aud goods they received for their lands. The first piles were driven to-day towards the extension of the goods wharf. A second wharf, under private auspices, was to-day started upon, chiefly to receive mining timber. COPiOMANDE L, Tuesday. The City of Auckland banked 190 ounces retorted gold. The Bank of New Zealand had 300 ozs. already banked from specimens, which makes 490 ounces from 159 tons and 300 lbs. specimens. Rather a splendid return, which shews the richness of aikoromiko generally. The Royal Oak has started crushing at the Nil Desperandum. Mr. Alfred Preece, of Tiki, has over 300 kauri logs in Hacket's Creek ready for the next freshes, and an equal number is stacked where Preece purposes erecting a sawmill, which is about half a mile from Thorley's Hotel. T APR AN OA, Tuesday. His Honor the Superintendent and Mr. Holloway met the natives in the new Courthouse yesterday afternoon. Crowds of natives were present, and the affair was a success. Mr. Holloway left this morniug per coach for Ohinemutu, accompanied by Mr. J. C. Young. On his return he will inspect thoroughly the district, accompanied by the chairman of the Road Board. Captain Turner, District Engineer, left last night for Oliiwa in the Southern Cross, to choose a site for the Government wharf about to be erected there.
