RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The first competition of this society for prizes took, place to-day at the rifle-range, the party being under the command of Captain Derrom, of the Victoria Company of Rilles. On the whole the shooting was tolerably good, the weather being fine, although occasionally puffs of wind interfered somewhat with the accuracy of the marksmen. The second match is to take place on Thursday next, commencing at S a.m., when it will be decided who are the winners of the prizes, which are as follow: 1. Silver cup, presented by Mr. Beck, the jeweller ; and another by the Association. The former to be held subject to certain, arrangements, and the latter to be at once delivered to the winner. 2. An eight-day clock, presented to the -Association by Messrs. Kohn Bros. 3. A silver-mounted claret jug. 4. Carbuncle breast-pin. 5. Eight-day tune-piece. 6. A set of sardonyx studs.
The -prizes offered by the Association are : 1. 400 yards, for the aggregate score of two members, a silver-mounted cup. 2. 500 yards, for the aggregate scores of two members, a silver-mounted tobacco-box. 3. GOO yards, a silver-mounted drinking horn.
It will be seen from the subjoined score that the firing yesterday was above the average, and might have been better had it not"been for the inferior character of some of the cartridges served out.
