MILITARY ETIQUETTE.

To tho Editor of the Herald. Sir, —I should like, through your columns, to put the following question to the Hon. the Defence Minister, or any other military authority of the colony:—"Is it perfectly in order for a military officer in command of a body of Volunteers, and the officer commanding the district, to alter the regular parade day to suit electioneering purposes, and himself and drill-sergeant (both receiving good Government pay), to devote the day in canvassing and interfering in a then pending election 011 behalf of a military candidate, thus interfering with the free action of voters ? Such was the case with the officer commanding this district on Saturday, 17th instant." Would not these parties have been much more suitably employed in endeavouring to render their men more efficient ? Vide Major Gordon's report.—l am, &0., Josir. CiiisrE. Stanlake, Mauku, Oct. 20.
