PRESENTATION TO MISS MAY.

To the Editor of the Hrkald. Sir, —I notice a letter in your eontemDOrary of this morning, suggesting that a presentation should be made to Miss Alice May before she leaves Auckland. As an admirer of that lady's talents (to appreciate which I paid several seven-and-sixpences), I heartily agree with the suggestion, and I would suggest that the committee of the several charitable institutions da prevent their couqiiimenU to that charming young vocalist, and request that out of the very prosperous season she "ran" in Auckland, she would be pleased to contribute her mite towards the support of the " poor, the lame, the halt, the blind, the widow, and the orphan."—l am, &c., An Admirer of Miss May. Auckland, August 21. [We really do protest against professionals being pressed to make contributions to the funds of local charities. They may well say that if it is none of their pleasure to do so without being requested, it is certainly not one of their obligations. The relationship between the artist and the public is purely a business one —so much amusement for so much money—and there it ends.—Ed. N.Z.H.]
