Collection of taxes in the State of Louisiana has been met with armed resistance. Governor Kellog telegraphed to President Grant that the State was drifting into revolution and anarchy. There have been two severe engagements on the Gold Coast, West Africa. The Fantees, who inhabit the maritime districts in the West, were compelled to retire on Ashantee. The Ashantees, 30,000 to 40,000 strong, advanced in line on Cape Coaßt, and the King of Ashantee has expressed his determination to retake Elimara, the capital of tho Dutch settlement on the West Coast of Africa.
