SHORTLAND-STREET.
To the Editor of the Heeaed. Sir, —Allow me to call the attention of the City Council to the disgraceful state of the footpaths in Shorllaud-street und Eden Crescent. It is safe enough during daylight, but at night the deep ruts and gullies are really dangerous ; and they have been in the same dangerous state for over six months. On enquiry, I was told to-day chat ecoria is to be put on them, although the last time (about twelve months ago) the scoria was put on it was all washed away in about a fortnight. How is it that Shortland-street and Eden Crescent are not to be asphalted like West Queen-street, Wyndham-street, Victoriastreet, &c. ? If some of the active members of the Council had property either in Short-laod-street or Eden Crescent we might then expect to have the paths made decent, or at least Bafe.—l am, &c., Sprained Ankle.
