IMPORTANT GOLD FIND AT UPPER TARARU.
Wβ are reliably informed, says the Thames Advertiser, that a very important discovery of gold has been made wit hin the last day or two in the Aurora (late Scottish Chiefs) mine, Upper Tararu. It is now several years since gold was found in this mine, which was the first opened in the "Upper Tararu block, and many of our readers will remember, doubtless, that a small crushing-mill was erected on the ground, and that a great deal of money was expended by the. old shareholders of the Scottish Obiefd in construction of shoots, tramways, &c. However, the company got into difficulties, and the claim was then reoccupied as the Aurora. For nearly twelve months paat men had been employed driving a low-level tunnel from the old machine site, and it was in this that the discovery referred to occurred on Saturday last. Since then there have been about 2 to 3 cwt. of specimens taken out. This is encouraging news indeed, not only for the shareholders of the claim in question, but for the whole district, and it will go for towards attracting a greater amount of attention to this once favorite locality. It will, donbtless, also infuse new energy into the shareholders of the surrounding mines, and by eneouracring them to press forward their prospecting works it will have a most beneficial influence on the whole of the Tararu district.
