NORTH SHORE.-CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEETING.
A meeting of members of the Church of England at the JN T ortli Shore was held in Trinity Church, on Tuesday evening, to consider the propriety of erecting a new building for the use of the Sunday-school. The night being very stormy, only sixteen or seventeen gentlemen were present. The proceedings were opened by sinking the 47th hymn,—Hr. Washington presiding at the harmonium, — after which the Rev. Mr. Ashwel! engaged in prayer.—The churchwardens reported that iu accordance with the resolution adopted at the last meeting of the congregation, thev had applied to the District School Committee for the use of their building for the Sunday scholars, but that committee had declined to allow the District School-room to be used for purely denominational purposes. They were now indebted to the liberality of Captnin Burgess and the trustees of the old school property for the use of the room they now occupied as a Sunday-school, but, as thev were all aware, their leaie had long since expired, and, in justice to the owner, and for the credit of the Church, it wa3 absolutely necessary to make an effort to obtain a building oi their own. If they were to take credit for havifig a flourishing Sunday-school iu connection with that Church, they must also undertake the responsibility of providing suitable accommodation for the scholars. After a lengthened debate, it was resolved to hold the school in the church until a new Jihoolroom was erected. —The Chairii.-an said he should be happy to contribute ten pounds to the buildiug fund — (cheers), —and lie ha 1 no doubt £50 could be collected from the congregation.—A list was then handed round, and a sum of £26, in addition to the douation of the chairman, was subscribed.—A building committee was then nominated, and were authorised to borrow £150, on personal security from the standing committee of the diocese, in aid of the fund ; the amount to be repaid by half-yearly instalments, without encroaching upon the ordinary revenue of the Church.—The meeting was closed by singing tne " Evening Hymn" and the Chairman pro' flouncing the benediction.
