NEWTON CONGREGATIONAL SUNDAY-SCHOOL
Some months back an appeal wa3 mar i through our columns to the public, on behalf of a new building for the above school to 7 place the one destroyed by the cyclone nf March last. The committee, though anxious to proceed with the matter, determined that they would not burden themselves with heavy debt, but rather wait a few month* until they had in hand at least two-thirds of the amount required for the enterprise. \y are now glad to be able to announce that the appeal has been liberally responded to. A freehold site has been secured, and paid for at a cost of 361., while 150/. is carried to building account. The csst of the new hali has been estimated at 2421., and its erection will be commenced forthwith. The committee want some 90L additional, in order to carry out their present intention, viz., to open the building free of debt, and, therefore, urgently request the speedy fulfilment of promises of assistance already made, as well as the aid of all those who may feel disposed to aid in 30 praiseworthy an object. We may mention, in addition, that it is intended to mate the hall available for public meetings, lectures, <fcc and in that respect will thus meet a muchneeded requirement in the rising and populous suburb of .Newton.
