DEPARTURE OF HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR AND LADY BOWEN FOR WELLINGTON.

His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen and Lady Bowen took their departure on the sth ult. for Wellington. Shortly after 1 o'clock the beautiful band of the 18th Eoyal Irish, under the direction of Mr. Quinn, and a guard of honor consisting of a hundred men, marched from the Albert Barracks to the extreme end of the Queen-street wharf, where the N.Z.S.N'. Company's s.s. Wellington, by which Lady Bowen proceeded to Wellington, was lying. On arrival there, the men formed a lino, Captain Le Motto being in command. A large number of ladies and gentlemen, numbering between 400 and 500, and including mpst of our leading citizens, had by this time assembled on the wharf, lin order to give his Excellency a parting cheer. Punctually at two o'clock, Sir George and Lady Bowen, accompanied by Mr. Lempriere (Private Secretary), Captain Young (Aide-cie-Camp), Dr. Pollen, and Major Heaphy, arrived at the steamer's side, and the guard of honor having presented arms, the band played the National Anthem. 'His Excellency and Lady Bowen were conveyed from Government House to the wharf in a handsome carriage, drawn by a pair of beautiful greys, furnished by Messrs. Quick and Co., and after shaking hands with a number of ladies and gentlemen, embarked on board the steamer Wellington, followed by his Honor. the Superintendent (J. Williamson, Esq.), Dr. Pollen, James Williamson, Esq., K. J. Creighton, Esq., E. L. Bucholz, Esq., James Naughton, Esq., Major Heaphy, the Eev. Walter McDonald, Major Tighe, A.O.G. Ibbetson, T. Macfarlane, Esq., S. Browning, Esq., Major Hamley, T. Beckham, Esq., E.M., Dr. Philson, Commissioner of Police, and. several of our leading merchants. Tho wharf at this time was lined witli a large concourse of people, who, on the steamer leaving tho wharf, gave three hearty cheers for tho Governor, and three cheers for Lady Bowen. His Excellency remained on board until nearing H.M-S.S. Eosario, when he was conveyed on board by. ono of the man-of-war gigs, accompanied. by Captain Young, Aide-de-Camp ; Mr. Lempriers, Private Secreary, remaining on board the Wellington with Lady Bowen. After a lapse of about twenty minutes the Wellington steamed slowly down the harbour, closely followed bythe Jiosario — both vessels clearing the Heads at about halfpast three o'clock. His Excellency, on arrival at Tauranga, will land to be present at native meeting, and will then p'roceed to Napier and. Wellington in the Colonial Government p.s. Sturt. Lady Bowen proceeds direct to Napier and Wellington.
