At the Hayrnarket, on Saturday last, fodder was in improved request, and bettor worth than previously about 6d the ewt. Draught horses were in better enquiry, beat animals bringing from £25 to £38 each. First-clasß riding horses are also enquired for. Medium and inferior horse stock share slightly in the improved demand. The inclement weather during the early part of the week, prevented much stock arriving at the sales held at the Triangle aud Honderson's Mill. There was, however, a steady demand, and all cattle brought forward were fully competed for, particularly young stock, whether cattle or sheep. At Bemuera, on Thursday, there was a large muster of store cattle. Prices for grown cattle were easier, but young stock were in demand at foil rates. Dairy cows, of good quality, were scarce, and extreme rates were obtained. Medium quality sold at relatively low rates. Fat cattle were in rather short supply than otherwise, 60 head penned ; prices were lower about 3s the lOOlbs. than last week, the general price obtained being about 32s the lOOlbs.; fourteen head were -withdrawn. A full market of fat sheep met with a fair enquiry ; there were not many of prime quality offered. The longwoolled ewes advertised brought 30a each; inferior ewes. 7s. Pigs offered plentifully; dairy or cprn.fed sold freely at full rates; rough stores at low pricee. WILMAM HCNIBR AND CO.'S WKBKLY BEPOBT. On Saturday last there wa» a fair number of horses ; they were rather dull of sale. Biding horees sold from £6 10s to £12; a double-seated bußgy sold for £35 ; oats sold tor 3e 6d per bushel. On Monday last, in consequence of the wet weather, there was not many cattle and very few buyers. Dairy cows Bold from £10 10a to £13 7s 6d ; atore stock sold at good prices; two-year old steers, £4 4s each ; three-year old steers, £7 each; calves, from £1 18e to £2 Is; one and a half-year old heifers, £3 \Bi each. Fit cattle.—There was a good number, all in sold for about 85s per 100 lbs. Bheep Market—There was a good number of eheep. Half-breds sold from 27s to 30a ; merino wethers Bold for 10a 6d each; there was no store eheep in the market. Pigs sold at good prices. Otahuhu Tuesday last there was very few cattle; two-year old steers sold for £i 12* 6d each ; calves, £119 a each. SHORTLAND SHAKE MARKET. MESSBS. BEETHAir, WAZKEB, ABD CO.'a HEPOBT. Our surmises of last week have been confirmed by the steady and apparently sure advance in prices consequent in an increasing demand for mining property Notwithstanding tho unusually boisterous weather of tho paet week a contiderable amount of busines3 has been done, and shareholders in first-class claims continue to withdraw their property from sale and refueo templing offers.

Every week brings to light one or more " pile claims," from wLich the shareholders must, within a limited time, acquire an independence, if not a large fortunfl : and, however sceptical many havo hitherto been, they cannot longer eneer at our statements, and refuse to acknowledge fccts that stare them in tho face on every spur and in every gully throughout this field. Our adricee from the South tell the same tale—a growing conviction that these diggings have not been estimated at their real value, and a considerable sum is expected from Canterbury for investment. Foreign capital had now commenced to pour in, and before many months are past we anticipate a characteristic of theso diggings to be a plethora, and not, as hitherto, a scarcity of money. We think the turning point in the history of this gold-field has been reached; coDfidenco is rapidly being established, and a rush of no ordinary magnitude may be looked for at no distant date. But when this does occur we warn purchasers to ba on their guard. The want of any effeotive system of registration has produced the material for a harvest of litigation fearful to contemplate, which, unless the greatest caution is exercised will be largely augmented by the influence of moneyed meD, unacquainted with the provious history of the claims in which they are about to invest, and all anxious to acquire a fortune in the shortest possible time. It costs nothing to apply to some respectable eharebroker or other person woll acquainted with the claims before a purchase is made, and advice is far more likely to bo of value than that of any caaual stranger—who may be anxiously urging the visitor to invest in some particular locality. The want of proper machinery is still severely felt, and will retard the progress of some otherwise valuable claims. The want of water mutt also call into existence before long one or more Companies for the purpose of fluming the Tararu or Kaueranga, for the
