TAURANGA.

(fhom oub. own oobhespokdent.) Mar-h 7. The gentlemen who left this place for Tuupo about three weekh ago, viz., the Honorable J. A. Tetley, M.L.0., the Honorable A. P. Seymour, — Young, lißq., and Mr. Warbrick, licensed interpreter, returned on Monday last, having succeeded in leasing from the natives extensive rune in the above named district ; they brought some excellent specimens of auiiferous quartz with them. Messrs. fceymour and Tetky, accompanied by Mr. Warbriok, started again for the same neighbourhood on Wednesday, and will return in time to meet the mail steamer on Tuesday next. The p.s. Sturt arrived during the night from Opotiki, and leaves for Auckland in a couple of hours. I shall, therefore, not take up your space with Opotiki intelligence, which you will doubtless receive in a more authentic shape f/om that place direct. The Volunteers from Tuuranga, mentioned in my last, were the Engineer Corps, whose services wero offered to Colonel Haultain by Captain okeet and Lieutenant Gundry, and accepted. About a dozen Ngapuhi natives were of the number. Should more men be required, they will be raised hero by Captain Bkeet, who will go to Opotiki himself and take command. Everything is remarkably quiet in our own district. Mr. Commissioner Clarke returned from Kotorua, on the road to which a large number of natives lira employed, preparatory tu the arrival of the Prince.
