CORONER'S INQUEST.

A. CouoKEu's I.\-q';est was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, at tho Shnk-espearo Hotel, Wyiidhani-street, beior-) Dr. Phil-on, M.1)., District Coioner, nnd a jury 61" twelve, on Tiew of the body of James Munroe, who died mddenly on Fiiday night last. From the evidence of Mr. Henry Clarke, landlord of the Shakespeare Hotel, and who had known tiis ccceaaei for about fouv years, it appeared that ho hid been recently working at Mercin-y Bay, in a mill OTrned by w ohapps mid Aueen, and had come up to Auckland ou Wednesday last to obtain medical treatment. Ha took x>p his lodgings at the hotel, and complnined several times of severe pains in the cheat, but took -■ ery little food, and no spirits. After tea. on Friday he a;ain suffered from agonising pains in the chest, and, on the landlord's recommendation, took some of ;he rosdicine which had been supplied to him. Deceasnd then appeared to haTe recovered, ! lit at a little nfeer 10 o'clocl: the pain airain attacked him ; arid he lay down on the «ofa and moaned. Dr. Charles Field Goldsbro, JVT.D., of the TTnivereity of Sydney, and member of the College of Physicians, Edinburgh, stated that he saw deeceased f asuiilly on Thursday lust, when (hs latter complained of great pain over the region of tho stomach, vomiting after food, &o. Tho doctor prescribed a tonio mixture and antibilious pUls, and it was agreed that a careful examination of deceased's chest should be made on Saturday last. On Friday night, however, the doctor was sent for, but only arrived in time to and that deceased had died about half an hour before. A post examination showed very considerable enlargement and disease of the heart, and contiguous arteries. The liver also was enoimously enlarged, end there was no doubt but that death had resulted from long standing disease,, and fatty degeneration of the heart. Tais witness also stated that hia impression on first seeing deceased on the 23 rd, waa that he was suffering from cancer of the stomach. The ODly property found in possession of deceased was a watch, steel albert, a meerschaum pipe, and 7s 6d in silver. Deceased had eerved on board a man-of-war under the name of Giller, but had deserted his ship in Auckland.
