BLYTH, BROTHER & CO.'S CIROULAB.

(Via Galle ) Port Louis, Mauritius, 4 th May, 1867. Deferring to our report of the sth ult. we are sorry to s.iy that the epidemic continues to rage with extreme violence both in town and country districts. The mortality in town during April has considerably exceeded that of any of the previous months since the breaking out of the malady, the average being over 200 a day. Under these circumstances, we cannot notice any improvement in busiuesss, indeed, in tho import market articles of neressity nlone find a sale. The March Australian Mail came to hand on the 2nd instant, per mail steamer Dane, via Galle. SVGAU. — The export trade has exhibited a better feeling than the import market, but with the exception of some purchases for the Cape, the business done in sugars, since our has been exclusively for the Australian. Colonies. We annex the memorandum of clearances, aggregating 4097 tons, but we deem it advisable to remind that a portion of the sugar shipped had been in warehouse for some time, awaiting conveyance. However, the business done since our last has, with the present small supply of sugars at market, leptuj> prices and we may consequently quote as under : — white crystals, fine, $7 60 @ $7 75; fair to good, $7 00 @ >7 40 ; yellow cryatjls, lair to good, $7 0 @ $7 25 ; counters, first, #6 75 @$10; third to second, .<■'6 0 @ S6 50 ; browns, fair to good, : S5 2d @ yo» rations, low to good, #4 75 @ £>5 25. The market has been inactive since the beginningof tlie month, and do not look for any revival in business before the despatch of the mail, 6th inst. We cannot as yet say to what extent our prices may be affected, bv the news per mail steamer, of a rise on. sugars, in March, at the principal Australian ports; and, although the mail has brought advice 3 of lower prices in th*3 T.ori lon markets, l tho stock of sugar, suitable for the. home markets is so small,"that we do. not expect prices hore will be affectcd to any extent. EXCHANGE. The demand for remittance for Europe has not improved, and the Oriental Bank has reduced its drawing rate on London, at 90 days, at 5 per'cent premium, and the Mauritius Commercial Bank to 4 per cent premium. In the absence of shipments for Europe, no document bills havo offered, but a gooa amount in Australian Bank credit bills on London,. at 90 days, drawn against shipments for the Colonies was negotiated for the mail of the 18th ultimo, @ 3 per cent premium, with y per cent brokerage*.

Document bills on Australia at 60 days, remain nominally at 5 P er ctnt discount. British sovereigns aro v crv scarce, and -worth 5 per cent premium; Australia sovereigns seldom fetch a premium, but aro now worth 2 t per cent premium. FREIGHTS. Hie amount of tonnage in harbour has been farther materially reduced by the charters for the colonic? and departures for the Eastern Ports, seek-,-nrr bin. as you will observo from the annexed mems. o/clearsinces, the engagements for the colonies have been made at but little improvement on previous rate'. For U. K., as may have been inferred from 01 , r ~ Etl rt;ir-f i"ivices, no charter Ims been effected. A chip'that hud been a rather considerable timo on the berth for London, has filled up with much difficulty at 20i and 5 per cent. IMPORTS. Sulphate of Quinine. —Notwithstanding thequan tity jcccived by tlie rr.ail steamers at the beginning of the t ro onth, this drug was very scarce during tho la=t fortnight. About 2SO ounces brought per mail steamer Dane from Galle were sold yesterday at an average of about .*30,00 per ouneo. Other lots have been reciived per Dane, besides about 900 ounces for Government, and the French mail steamer is ejected to bring a largo supply from Europe, in execution of orders, but, unless the fever abates, it is cot impossible that the article may again be scarce towards the close of the month. Salt beef is in limited supply, but, in the present dull state of business, the article is neglected. A small parcel of fair Australian, ex Ziska, is selling slowly at £22.00 per tierce. _ Salt pork continues out of stock and an arrival will fetch a good prico. Better. —Best quality may still do quoted at ?SO. 00 per 100 lbs. Tallow, we have no importation of this article to notice, and the only parcel in the market is held by second hands for $16. CO per ICO lbs but with little success. Wheat —Remains in heavy stock and much dopressed. Wo understand only $2. 25 per 100 lb3. has been offered for a recent direct importation of about 1000 bags Chilian. Flour also is still abundant and very dull of sale. Eiue Adelaide, ex Sarah, sells with difficulty in small lots at $3. 75 @ $4. 00 per ICO lbs. Bran—There is no enquiry for this article and quotations are purely nominal at $'2. 30 @ $2. 10 per 100 lbs. for Australian. Oats —Australian aro worth §2. 75 and Indian $2. So per 100 lbs. but the articl-J shares in the present general dulness. —We are, &C-, BiTTH, BrOTHEK & Co.
