NOTICES OF MOTION. This Day.
Mr. Bucklakd to move, That the petition of Macnainara Bussell be referred to a select committee consisting of Mr. Dignan, Mr. Kerr, Mr. Stark, Mr! Webster, and Mr. Wynn. Captain Coop sit to move, That such alterations and additions be made to the Land Regulations as will give effect to the following propositions, viz., (1.) To empower Superintendents to set apart certain blocks of land, for military purposes, as free grants to discharged soldiers and sailors who have served in the Province and have received no free grants of land. (2.) To empower the Superintendent to issue land orders to settlers who have left the United Kingdom, Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, without land orders, for the purpose of settling in the Province; provided. they can give such, reasons as will satisfy the Superintendent that tliey left their former homos to settle in this Province uti jer the impression that they were entitled to receive land, and can give satisfactory reasons why they failed to obtain! land orders." Captain Coopeb to move, That it is tho desire of this Council that such alterations shall be made in the'Larid Begulations as wiil empower the Superintendent to grant land in lieu of money as payment for the construction of roadß, bridges, wharves &c to tho full estimated value of tho works done, instead of the half value allowed by the present law- also that such provision of the Land Begulationa mav be nmde to apply to local Boards as well as to individ- ' i P *¥- &1 S 0N 40 ?°ve, Shat an address be presented to Sib Honor the Superintendent requesting him to obtain-and send r to the Council a return in detail showing, up to date, (1.) Quantity in acres taken up under the Auckland Waste Lands Act bv military and forty-acre-settlers. (2.) Quantitv in actes occupied by-the aforesaid settlers, showing the number of acres fenced, and in crop, whether grass or other description of crop. (3.) Quantity of land which has reverted to the Province under the provisions of the Auckland Waste Lands A ct. Captain Coopee to move, That the following regulation be added to the proposed Land Kegulationo, viz., •" That settlers already in the Province shall be allowed to select: land under the Bame conditions as settlers who may .come from Australia. Captain; Cooper to move, That lands selected under tlie - proposed t Government land; resolutions shall be th^'^raie.pf.sixpence an acre per allium, to be paid in advance to the Chairman of Highway Boards;-such -moneys to bft expended in the district in native roads. . i
