THE NORTHERN DIVISION ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates for seats in the eneral Assembly for this division, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. Thomas' Hen-. Qerson, will take place, to-day at the pilot stalon, iN ortli Shore.
As our readers are aware, Mr. Thomas Macfarlane, the partner of Jlr. Henderson, has, in accordance with the general wish of the electors; presented himself for election. Since then Major Cooper, formerly iu the colonial service at Wnnganui, has come out to oppose him. \V"e trust, however, that the good sense of the latter gentleman will cause liim to withdraw to-day from the contest. He must be quite aware, at any rate the electors are so, that of all men he would be most unacceptable to the members of the General Assembly as one of their number, and that his presence in the House as an Auckland member would weaken the position ef Auckland. We trust that Mr. Maci'arlane will be elected to-day without opposition.
