So ehurchbell, mournful in its swaying; No pressure of a friendly hand ; No ear to list what he was saying ; No eye to we--p aa his voice grew faint, And the spirit left its earthen vessel, But His who knows the soul's restia'nt When struggling in death's awful wrestle; And, now, th}' earthly course is rim, — Brave, lion-hearted Livingstone! Six feet of earth in a far-off land! Are any real mourners knee'mg Around that lonely mound of sand ? A martyr's blood is thence appeaHog ; Alone he died, as a martyr should, Who, trusting in his Saviour's blessing, Had crossed the desert —stemmed the flood— True courage and truer faith possessing : Nobly thy martyr's crown ia won— Brave, holy-liearted Livingstone ! Six feet of earth in a far-off land ! A heritage of fame undying In Britain, where thy brave hourt^plartned Bright hopes for AJVie's heathen, dying : Bad, sad regrets in a million lieai ts; Tears, bitter leavs —a nation's sorrow From I'll the world one sob upstarts : Shall it bo hush'd again to-morrow r It matters not; thy work is done— Brave, lion-hearted Livingstone!
