THE SOUTH.
By tlie arrival of the s.s. Queen, at an early hour this morning, wo have received our usual files from Dunedin, Canterbury, Wellington, and.Hawke's Bay. From "Wellington (4tli inst.) we learn that his Excellency Sir George Grey was still remaining there, anil that the date of his departure for the Kawau was uncertain. If.AI.S.S. Falcon was awaiting his orders. We understand thai; the s.s. St. Kilda has been launched from the I*.Z.S.N. Company's Slip, and will proceed to the East Coast to relieve the steamer Sturt, which vessel has been disposed of by the Government to a gentleman at iN'els ':: fjr the sum of £4,000.
From Hawke's Bay there is no news of importance The Wairoa correspondent of the Hawke's Bay Herald, under date Dec. 2, states that hostilities between tho Hauhaus and friendly natives was imminent; but this news has been anticipated by the arrival of the Beautiful Star, the captain of which vessel reports that hostilities had already been initiated by the friendly natives, full particulars of which will be found elsewhere.
The news from the other Southern ports is of little moment.
