(Boforo Thomas Beckham, Esq., E.M.) DBCNKENNESS. James Smith, Christopher Johnson, John Brown, Wm. Jones, Frederick Ward, William Ilileß, Daniel McKonna, Francis Murphy, and Francis O'Brien, were eacli charged with tliis offence, and wero treated in the usual manner. imnAcir oi' tub distillation diidinance. John Daly was charged by Wm. Mills with a breach of the Distillation Ordinance, by having in his possession on thi ;<Mi Nov., a still for the distillation of spirits at Papatoitoi. Mr. Gillies, on behalf of tho prosecution, asked for n romand for the appcaranco of tho Customs' Officers, who wero unavoidably absent on duty of a similar naturo. His Worship said thoro waß no consideration for tho prisoner, as a summons had been issued and ho had not attended to it, so ho must not now bo surprised if ho was remanded until Friday. Of course thoro was no objoction of taking bail, but tbo maximum fino was £500, so that it would require two good sureties at all ovents t~> that amount. The prisoner said ho could not find bail, so ho wai remanded until Friday. LAEOENT. James Dow-ling and Thomas Davis woro charged by John Butt with stealing from the cutter Tay a butt of wine, valuo 365. Komanded until this day.
