Insurance ox the Waikato Riveb.—The New Zealand Insurance Company are prepared, we see, to take risks on goods sent per barge from the Waikato Heads to Alexandra and the usual stations on the river. Masonic- The usual monthly meeting of the Lodge, St. Andrew's, will be held on Monday evening next, in the Lodge-room, Star Hotel. Auckland Distbict, 1.0.0. F., M.U.-Tho first monthly meeting of the members of the several lodges in this district will be held on Tuesday evening next, at the " Fountain of Friendship " Lodge-room, Odd Fellows' Hal! : Queen-street. Loyal Fountain of Friendship Lodge, 1.0.0.F, M.U.—The members of the above lodge are requested to meet in the Odd Fellows Hall to-morrow afternoon, at a quarter before two, in order to attend the funeral of the late Brother J. Kirk. Northern Division Election. —The .lieturning Officer, Colonel Balneavis, has, we see, notified that lie will publish the declaration of the poll for the Northern Division on Monday next, at the old Court House, at noon. Fatal Occurrence at the Hot Springs.— We regret to state that on Wednesday lust, the day of the election for the Northern Division, a squabble ensued, in the course of which an old and well-known settler on the Waiwera, Air. George Dare, received a blow on the temple from Mr. Sims, it is said, late Sergeant-Major of the Auckland Police, and now proprietor of the Hot Springs Hotel. Mr. Dare was felled by the blow, and when picked up was found to be dead. „ , The English Mail.—We are informed, upon authority, that it is likely that the English mail for New Zealand will be sent from Melbourne about the 23rd inst., per Rangitoto, to ISelson via Hokitika. . Mb. Alfbed Buckland will sell at tlio Haymarket to-day, the powerful gelding Fisherman, 6 three-year old unbroken draught colts, 50 sacks of maize, 8 horses, 4 drays, 2 light carts, a neat pony pharton and set of silvermounted harness; also, the hay crop, as now standing in the enclosure nearly opposite tie " Royal Oak," containing 22 acres. Messrs. Hunter and Co. will offer for sale today at their yards, Durham-5t.,5 superior, 20 medium, aud 15 extra heavy draught horses, also 30 hacks, and -23 light harness horses, J-iiey will also sell several loads of hay and straw, ana a number of new and second-hand drays, spring carts, gigs, ploughs, harrows, harness, &c.
