THE NORTHERN ASSOCIATION.

TrtE Council of the Northern Association held a special meeting yesterday, to consider a letter received from an Auckland representative at Wellington, in reference to the approaching elections of Superintendent and Provincial Council. The letter referred to had been written in great haste immediately before the closingol the mail : ami it was considered by tlieCouncil not to furnish information sufficiently full or definite as to the views and wishes of the members. A number of the Representatives at Wellington— it is not stated how many —agreed in recommending a plan which would comprehend the nomination of Mr. John Williamson for the Snperintendency and the introduction of some other members of the General Assembly into the Provincial Council. The Council of the Association, however, considered that the matter of paramount importance is to avoid the calamityofacontested election ; and they have, therefore, in the repty to the letter fro in Wellington, expressed the expediency and importance of an effort being made to procure the consent of \lr. Whitaker to his nomination to the ollice of Superintendent. It is considered that this would be an effectual step for keeping away the immense evil of dissension at this momentous crisis : while the election of Mr. Whitaker to the Snperintendency at this time would in all respects tend to advance the interests of the Province of Auckland.
