QUEEN'S REDOUBT.
[FEOit OUH OWlf COKUESFOXDEKT.] April 10. The excitement that lately prevailed baa subsided, the natives not having made their appearance near this post, and things have resumed their usual course. Tho immigrants are rather dissatisfied with the Colonial Government notifying tUeir intention of stopping their pay and rations on the Ist of next month, many of them not having to"ls to work their land and not the means of purchasing them. A number of comfortable whares are, however, being erected on the different allotments at Pokeno, •where also a store for supplying all the necessaries of lite has bpen built by Messrs. Hamilton and Co. They supply the mret of the immigrants, and I believe give every Batisfactior. What lias been wanted, and it is surprising that the Post Office authorities have not already established, a money order office at the different posts ixc tho Waikato to enable persons to transmit money to Auckland. They hare at present to run the risk of losing it in transmission. To my certain knowledge in two instances, a soldier forwarded some money to his -arifo and it was not received by her ; in both. cases tho same man was the victim. It eojneg very hn-:d on himself and family ; his pay is little, and if he loses the portion of his earnings his poor wife and family have to snfl'er. I hope that something trill bi> done in this matter. We have again been favoured with a ■» iait from Mri Why man, who delivered a lecture last the subject was " London as it was and as it is;" it was very well attended, and greatly amused the inhabitants.
