WANGANUI.

!_ l<lloll OCR OWX COKUESPONDtM'.J Camp "Waingororo, 7 th April. A Convoy went down to Manawapou to-day to living up provisions. A small steamei' from "Wanganui arrived witli provisions and a surfboat in tow, but the sea twis too rough for her to have communication with the shore, so she passed on towards Taranaki. Captaiu Baker, of the General Staff, went down to "Wangauui to-day with an escort of cavalry in charge of the English mail; Lieu-

tenant and Adjutant SnacWeton of the Military ■Train also Trent back to Wamjanui, en. route to re-join the head-quarters of "Lls corps at Anck* ■ land. The redoubts on both sides of the river ufe finished, and tie General is now waiting; instructions from .the Governor as to his future operations, he has siiii some ' seven or eight hundred men at his disposal, which.l imaging he intends to keep as a reserve for the purp6s6 of moving on any point their services may be required; the remainder of his force is located in. the redoubts which .have been established along his line of march, and I suppose, will j remain there until their place is taken by military settlers, April 8. A reconnoitring party, under the Lietit.General commanding, went oiit this morning in tho" direction of the bush : they came upon S largo village surrounded by a high palisading, and occupied by the rebels, who opened fire oif the cavalry at about 800 yards. The troops did not go any closer, as the bush ran close Tip to the settlement, snd there were no guns with. [ the party to breach, the palisading. ;■ It was the steamer Moa that passed oar camp last night. She returned to-day and discharged her cargo on the beach by means of a surf boat. Two other steamers have arrived—one WangSnui, and the other the Ahuriri, arid two inoffe. are expected. We ought not to run short of provisions for some time. The whole of the steamers except the Sandfly and Gundagai eniployed b}- the Government here are hired at so' much per month—the Wanganui, I believe, at £800, and coal found by the Government. ,1 don't know if any of your readers ever saw the steamer Moa. -She is hired by the Government,, but I do not know at what figure. She is a. miserable little cockle-shell, and from appearancehardly carries as much as a good suif boat would do. T suppose her owner will reap a good'harvest from her engagement with the Government.

Colonel Weave, 50th. Regiment, moves forward as far ns TVnimate to-morrovr morning with the bead-quarters of the oOth Regiment and the whole ot tho 70th. It would be very easy for the General to send forward a flying column to meet Colonel Warre's force at Stoney river, which would only be three days' march. It is just possible that this may be done.; . . ... flth April.— The Lieut.-General and Staff accompany the force moving forward to-day to' Waim.ite, and will return again either to this camp or proceed to "Wanganui as soon as a post is established. The reason of the General moving on to that place, which is only distant some three miles from this canip, is for the purpose of obtaining a better landing place for putting the supplies on shore. As the English mail left this camp on the 7th. for AYangnnui. I forwarded my despatch by that opportunity, but as one of the steamers go direct to Auckland from this place, it is very probable that this will come to hand before that of a previous date. The Natives have evidently come to the conclusion not to interfere with the General and his troops, unless attacked, which there is little prospect of this ieason.'
