THE NATIVES.
To the Editor cf the " New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator." Sir. — In October last, E' Henry a native of New Zealand, was convicted before the Chief Justice, of stealing money from the till of Mr. Joseph a storekeeper in Willis-street, and sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour. The following week he escaped, and has since that period been at large at Taranaki. Last Thursday information was forwarded to the chief constable, that E' Henry had returned and was then at the pah Te Aro. B. Sayer having procured assistance, immediately proceeded to the pah, for the purpose af apprehending him, but the moment the natives discovered his object they surrounded the warra in which E' Henry was concealed, and resolutely refused to allow him to be removed. No attempt has been made since Sunday to recover this convicted felou, though he was still at the pah on Thursday. I am, ' Sir, Your obedient servant, Justitia. Wellington, March 1, 1844.
